Thornton claims Dale DeFrance Memorial at Marshalltown
A doubleheader weekend with the Dirt Track Bank Elite 8 Series brought Dylan Thornton and the Kay Motorsports team to Marshalltown Speedway on Friday for the eighth annual Dale DeFrance Memorial.
Facing off against competitors from both the Malvern Bank East and West Series, Thornton raced into the opener with a fifth-to-third heat showing. He was leading when a rain shower during a lap-30 caution forced officials to cut the race short, awarding him the $4,544 payday. The win marked his 13th of the season.
Heading south to Corning’s Adams County Speedway on Saturday for the Ray Houck Late Model Showdown, Thornton secured his spot in the feature with a third-place finish in his heat race. In the 40-lap main event, he overcame a pair of trips over the berm to salvage a fifth-place finish.
Thornton currently holds a 38-point advantage in the Malvern Bank East Series standings.
