Thornton notches runner-up finish with SLMR at Knoxville
Dylan Thornton was among 38 Super Late Model competitors who converged on the Sprint Car Capital of the World this past weekend, as the legendary Knoxville Raceway hosted the Lucas Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals.
Facing off against the stars of the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series during Thursday and Friday’s preliminary programs, Thornton came up short of a feature start on both nights, recording a sixth-place finish in his respective consolation race each evening.
Undeterred, Thornton pulled double duty on Saturday. He came heartbreakingly close to transferring into the $75,000-to-win main event, finishing fourth in his B-Main — just one spot shy of a transfer position.
Switching gears for the Malvern Bank Series feature later that evening, Thornton rebounded. After charging from third to first in his heat race, he capped the night with a strong second-place finish in the A-Main. He joined race winner Chad Simpson and third-place finisher Dallon Murty on the podium.
